Children and families are very welcome at St Saviour's!
We have an active Junior Church in the 11am Sunday service, which usually involves a Bible story, song, prayer and craft activity. This starts part way into the service in the side chapel and parents are welcome to stay with their children during junior church or to leave them with our team of volunteers, whichever they feel most comfortable with. The chapel is available at any time during both 9.30 and 11am services. There is a changing area here too.
On the first Sunday of the month our 11am service is an All Age Service. This means the whole service is for both adults and children. There are more children's songs, a short talk and then part of the service where the children can do a craft activity and the adults can find a cup of coffee or join in a led prayerful meditation. It all happens in the main church space and is an informal service.
There is also football in Wendell Park after the All Age Services. Older kids/teenagers are welcome to come and join in! It starts around 12.30.
Thursdays 3-5pm during term time. A space to come as you are, have tea and cake. Stay and play for tots with toys and crafts. It's a drop in time aimed at Mums as much as 'tots', where there is space for chats. It's led by Alice our ordinand (trainee vicar) who is a mum herself and has trained as a 'Mother Supporter' with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers.
We conduct many christenings at our church each year. It’s a great way for friends, family and congregation to celebrate this arrival into the Christian faith. Many of our congregation members were baptised at St Saviour’s and are now active members of our church community.
Our after school club is taking a break for the moment while our families worker Lizzie is on maternity leave. Last year it was a wonderful space for kids from the school to come and play table tennis, games, do crafts and just have fun in a safe space. We hope to start this up again in the future so watch this space!
Every person has a value and dignity which comes directly from the creation of male and female in God's own image and likeness. Christians see this potential as fulfilled by God's re-creation of us in Christ. This implies a duty to value all people as bearing the image of God and therefore to protect them from harm.
We take this responsibility seriously and offer training in safeguarding to our volunteers and members.
