Church services
Following the Church of England's most recent advice, we are continuing to hold church services, and have put in place the following measures:
1. The Eucharist – we are offering communion in the form of wafers only, with only the priest receiving the wine.
2. The Peace – we are suspending walking around during the Peace, shaking hands, and other forms of greeting involving physical contact.
3. Good hygiene – we are ensuring everyone playing a part in providing services maintains good hygiene, including those handing out books and administering the Eucharist.
4. Collection plate – we are suspending passing around the collection plate, but it will be available for people to visit for contactless payments after services.
5. Coffee and tea – we are suspending coffee and tea.
6. Meeting and greeting – we are discouraging people from handshaking and other forms of physical contact before and after services.
Love and fear
Our vicar, Revd Chris Lee, says: We find ourselves in an anxious world, where we’re aware of how linked we are, but also that this is casuing isolation and separation. The bigger worry for me is not the spread of the coronavirus as much as the spread of fear. As people of God we are called to hold to his truth, and his word says, ‘Perfect love casts out fear.’ So in this difficult time as Christians I believe we are called to pray, but also as people who cast our worries and fears onto Christ.
We will be taking this seriously in our church, as well as continuing to seek the best way forward for us as a community of believers, and as a parish.
